Fourteen choir members gathered on April 26th to sing the Liturgy under the direction of Jerry Hughes (Asst. Director/St. Demetrios, Hammond, IN) with organist Rosie DeSanto (Accompanist/St. Nicholas, Oak Lawn, IL). Attendees represented All Saints/Joliet, Holy Apostles/Westchester, St. Demetrios/Libertyville, St. Nicholas/Oak Lawn, St. Demetrios/Hammond, St. Spyridon/Palos Heights, and Annunciation/Kankakee.
Fr. Nicholas Greanias, our Metropolis Federation Ministry Advisor, who served as Proestaminos of Annunciation, requested the Flash Choir. “Twilight of Byzantium”
A Concert by Cappella Romana
7:00 PM, Friday, April 24, 2026, Kracum Performance Hall
Carleton College, One North College St, Northfield, MN 55057
On 29 May 1453, the city of Constantinople fell after a two month siege by the Ottoman Turks. This event brought to an end the political legacy of the Roman Empire in the East, and it concluded more than a century of efforts to revitalize the fortunes of Byzantium through diplomacy and dialogue with the Latin West.
In this program, Cappella Romana explores the musical soundscape of this period through their performance of selections from the Liturgy of Hagia Sophia, contemporary Orthodox and Latin chant, and Lamentations prepared especially to respond to this dramatic world event. This concert and brief residency complement a course dedicated to a deep, historical understanding of the Fall, its context, causes, and consequences. More Info HERE.
NOTE: This event is free and open to the public. No ticket or reservation is required to attend. The house doors will open 15 minutes prior (6:45 PM) to the performance start time (7:00 PM)
